Agent: 'Michel Preud'homme interested in becoming Rangers manager'

Former Club Brugge manager Michel Preud'homme is interested in replacing Pedro Caixinha at Rangers, according to the Belgian's agent.

Former Club Brugge manager Michel Preud'homme has expressed an interest in replacing Pedro Caixinha at Rangers, according to the Belgian's agent.

The Ibrox outfit sacked Caixinha on Thursday afternoon after just eight months in charge following a series of underwhelming results.

Preud'homme led Brugge to a first Jupiler League title in 11 years last year and also won the Belgian championship as manager of Standard Liege in 2008.

The 58-year-old, currently a free agent after leaving Brugge in the summer, has spoken to the Rangers board about potentially succeeding Caixinha, according to Ugi Canturk.

The agent is quoted by The Sun as saying: "We've had a nice conversation with Rangers and everything is open. Michel has been offered a job at Mechelen but that is on hold. We have said that as long as there is no decision yet from Rangers, we don't want to block ourselves.

"Michel is honoured that Rangers would consider him because he sees them as a huge club. They have been down for a few years but in Europe, Rangers are still a big club. So we'll wait to see what they decide.

"The talks were very open. Michel has made it clear to the club he wants to be considered. He wants the job so if they want him, he will do it."

Preud'homme, an esteemed goalkeeper during his playing career, has also managed Belgian club Gent, Dutch outfit Twente and Saudi Arabian side Al-Shabab.
