Cristiano Ronaldo hits back after 'Messi' chants

Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo hits back at the Denmark fans who taunted him by chanting Lionel Messi's name during the Euro 2012 fixture between the two teams.

Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo has hit back at Denmark fans who taunted him by chanting Lionel Messi's name throughout last night's Euro 2012 fixture.

Danish supporters repeated the Argentine striker's name every time Ronaldo touched the ball during his side's victory over Morten Olsen's team.

"You know where he was at this time [last year]? Do you know? He was being eliminated in the Copa America, in his own country," Ronaldo said. "I think that's worse, no?"

Portugal claimed victory in the match through a late strike from substitute Silvestre Varela after Nicklas Bendtner looked to have rescued a point for the Danes.

Paulo Bento's men take on the Netherlands in their final group game on Sunday (June 17).
