Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists that goalkeeper David de Gea will remain as his number one, despite the Spanish goalkeeper's slump in form.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that goalkeeper David de Gea will remain as his number one.

The Spanish stopper has come under scrutiny over the last year after several mistakes, with the most recent error gifting Everton the opening goal in a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park last weekend.

Whilst on-loan goalkeeper Dean Henderson has been in impressive form for Sheffield United, De Gea's position could come under threat in the summer.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Solskjaer has clearly stated that De Gea shall remain United's number one.

Solskjaer has also suggested that a start for Sergio Romero against Derby County in their FA Cup fifth round tie on Thursday night is nothing to do with De Gea's slump in form.

Solskjaer said: "Sergio has done well in the games he's played definitely, but I have no qualms about playing David in every game because of what he's done.

"His performances have been great. The save straight after, I thought was 100% offside with [Dominic] Calvert-Lewin, but he wasn't. So that was a point-saving save for us. He's made amends."

De Gea is likely to feature for United in the Manchester derby on Sunday when they host Manchester City in the Premier League.
