Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand claims that Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane might have missed his chance to join Manchester City.

Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand has suggested that Harry Kane might have missed his chance to join Manchester City.

Kane has been consistently linked with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur in recent years, with the 27-year-old said to be fearful that he could end his career without winning either the Premier League or Champions League.

Man City are expected to move for a new striker this summer amid claims that their all-time leading goalscorer Sergio Aguero could leave following the expiration of his contract.

Ferdinand has said that Pep Guardiola's side could now favour a move for Erling Braut Haaland, who has scored 31 goals in 30 appearances for Borussia Dortmund during another impressive campaign.

"I think a season or two ago Harry Kane would have been the first choice for them because he can play that number 10 role and he can come deep and become part of the midfield and create extra numbers in there,' Ferdinand told BT Sport.

"I think now the age may be a concern and the actual price tag he is going to come with. When you have got people like Haaland it is a different proposition in terms of longevity to build around for a number of years."

Haaland is also believed to be a target for Man United, Chelsea, Juventus, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich ahead of this summer's transfer window.
