Team News: Memphis Depay named in Manchester United side

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal hands a debut to Memphis Depay for their Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has handed a debut to Memphis Depay for their Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Dutchman is one of four summer signings making their first competitive appearance for the home side, with Sergio Romero starting in goal, alongside fellow newcomers Matteo Darmian and Morgan Schneiderlin.

Meanwhile, the visitors are without regular first-choice goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who is only fit enough for the bench after struggling with a hand injury in pre-season.

Michel Vorm starts between the posts, while Eric Dier is also included as Danny Rose misses out after picking up a minor quad injury in training.

Manchester United: Romero; Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Shaw; Carrick, Schneiderlin, Mata, Young, Depay; Rooney

Tottenham Hotspur: Vorm; Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies; Bentaleb, Dier, Chadli, Dembele, Eriksen; Kane
