Tony Pulis: 'Jose Mourinho right man to restore Manchester United'

Tony Pulis expects Jose Mourinho to turn Manchester United into a title-winning machine in the same way as Sir Alex Ferguson before him.

West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis has insisted that Jose Mourinho is the right person to restore Manchester United's DNA and build a winning future for the club.

The 53-year-old looks to be on track at Old Trafford after securing a fourth win on the bounce on Saturday, courtesy of a 2-0 victory over the Baggies at The Hawthorns.

Pulis points to United's failure to properly adapt when Sir Matt Busby left the club in the 1970s, with the next four managers picking up just a few major honours between them, before Sir Alex Ferguson's arrival in 1986 brought a new wave of success - something the Welshman expects Mourinho to replicate.

"It took three or four managers when Matt [Busby] left for Alex to come and sort the place out, get it moving again," he told BBC Sport. "They've picked the right man this time.

"They have to back him, which I'm sure they will do. If it's not this year then next year they'll start picking up trophies again. It's written all over the fella. He's been a winner in every country he's been in. He knows how to win."

Man United are currently sixth in the Premier League table, while also reaching the last four of the EFL Cup and the knockout stages of the Europa League.
