Alexander Buttner: 'Louis van Gaal ignored me'

Dutch defender Alexander Buttner believes that he was "unfairly ignored" for international duty by Louis van Gaal during the last two years.

Alexander Buttner has said that he felt "unfairly ignored" by Louis van Gaal during his time at Manchester United.

The left-back missed out on a place in the Netherlands' World Cup squad prior to leaving Old Trafford for Dynamo Moscow.

The 25-year-old told The Sun: "I have been unfairly ignored. I played for Manchester United in the Champions League against Arjen Robben and I was man of the match.

"I am disappointed in Van Gaal for not giving me a chance. [Dirk] Kuyt? I don't want to talk about other players. But when I see how the left-back position was filled against Argentina, I know that I could have played there.

"Few people can say they played for Manchester United's first team. I now want to break into the Dutch side through playing for Dinamo. The incoming coach, Guus Hiddink, knows Russian football better than anyone."

Van Gaal will take charge of Manchester United following the conclusion of the World Cup, where his Dutch side are involved in the third-place playoff later today.
