Top 10 Premier League strikers of all time - #6

Sports Mole's countdown of the top 10 Premier League strikers of all time continues with number six - Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The archetypal poacher and arguably the finest of his ilk in Premier League history, Ruud van Nistelrooy's five-year spell at Old Trafford was packed with goals galore.

After seeing his switch to Manchester United postponed by a year due to a serious knee injury, Van Nistelrooy made up for lost time by scoring 36 times in his debut season for the club - including 23 in the Premier League.

The Dutchman was named the PFA Fans' and Players' Player of the Year that season, but outshone even those performances with a 25-goal league haul in a title-winning 2002-03 campaign - a tally which earned him the Golden Boot and Player of the Season awards.

Somewhat surprisingly, that would prove to be his only league title with the club as Arsenal and Chelsea battled for top honours too, but Van Nistelrooy still managed to end his United career with 150 goals in 219 appearances across all competitions.

The fox in the box struck 95 of those in 150 Premier League outings too, breaking the 20-goal barrier in four of his five seasons with the club.
