Preview: Macao vs. Myanmar - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Monday's friendly clash between Macao and Myanmar, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Macao and Myanmar go in search of a much-needed victory when they face off in an international friendly encounter at the Dalian Pro Soccer Academy Base Stadium.

Neither team is on a good run of results heading into this one, and Monday's encounter represents a good opportunity for both sides to get themselves back on track.

Match preview

Macao were on the receiving end of a narrow 1-0 defeat against Singapore when the teams faced off at Estadio Campo Desportivo on March 26.

Lazaro Oliveira's men went behind to a Lionel Tan strike midway through the second 45 minutes, and that turned out to be the deciding moment.

That was a first outing in four years for Seleccao do Lotus, whose last involvement prior to that was a 3-0 defeat against Sri Lanka in the preliminary stage of the World Cup qualifiers back in 2019.

Up next is the task of facing off against an opposing outfit currently on a three-game winning run in this fixture by a combined score of 9-0.

Having been beaten in all but two of their most recent eight home matches, Monday's hosts will be keen to give their fans reason to cheer this time around.

Myanmar put up little resistance against China as they fell to a humiliating 4-0 loss in the sides' meeting at the Dalian Suoyuwan Stadium on Friday.

First-half goals from Elkeson and Liangming Lin left Michael Feichtenbeiner's men with a mountain to climb after which a second-half double from Wu Lei put the result beyond doubt.

Consequently, the Burmese leographs have now failed to win any of their last 16 games across all competitions since beating East Timor 2-0 two and a half years ago.

Off the back of 16 goals conceded across their last four away matches, Monday's visitors will need to keep things tight at the back to stand any chance of securing a positive result here.

Team News

Ng Wa Seng is the only member of Macao's current squad who currently plays his football abroad, with Lazaro Oliveira opting to stick with his trusted core of home-based players.

Boasting 39 caps to his name which is the most of any active player, Ho Man Fai is expected to retain his place in the hosts' starting XI, fending off competition from Fong Chi Hang.

Sithu Aung grabbed a double for Myanmar the last time they visited Macao back in 2017, and the 26-year-old will be looking to deliver the goods once again.

Thu Aung was forced off with an injury scare just 41 minutes into his side's clash against China last time out, making him a doubt for this one.

Macao possible starting lineup:
Fai; Amancio, Duarte, Almeida, Seng; Keng, Carlos, Hoi San; Torrao, Chi Seng, Chi Hang

Myanmar possible starting lineup:
Phyo; Thiha, Kyaw, Lin; Win, Yan, Wai, Nanda; Lwin, Paing, Maung

We say: Macao 0-1 Myanmar

Having not played together in a fairly lengthy period, Macao's squad chemistry is set to be tested against a Myanmar side who have been largely underwhelming of late, to say the least. We expect a nervy and cagey affair with the visitors narrowly coming out on top in the end.
