Steven Caulker: 'I want to play for England again'

Defender Steven Caulker says that his long-term aim is to regain his place in the England squad, despite currently being without a club.

Defender Steven Caulker has revealed that he has his "hunger" back for football after previously encountering problems with alcohol and gambling.

Caulker is currently without a club after being released by Queens Park Rangers, but the centre-back has been training with Luton Town and has reportedly received offers from Turkey and China.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Cardiff City man has also said that he is looking to eventually regain his place in the England squad after scoring on his one appearance against Sweden in 2012.

The 26-year-old told ITV: "My goal is to get back to the top - playing for England, although it seems far away from, is something I want to achieve. Playing and getting a goal on my England debut was surreal but I made some wrong decisions.

"I want it back, my hunger is there. I look back on that day and want more of that. Everyone deserves a second chance, a chance to prove themselves again. I have been there and proved it. It is about proving myself again."

As a free agent, Caulker is still able to sign for a new club outside of the transfer window.
