Liverpool confirm that Maxi Rodriguez signs for Newell's Old Boys in Argentina.

Liverpool have confirmed that Maxi Rodriguez has signed for Newell's Old Boys in Argentina.

The 31-year-old Argentine international moved to Anfield on a free transfer from Atletico Madrid in 2010.

"I have tried to give everything every day that I was wearing the LFC crest," said the winger in an open letter to fans on the club's official website. "It has been a great honour to defend this shirt during two and a half years.

"I am returning home with a suitcase full of great memories, good friends within the team and also within this great family that works every day in the club. Thanks a lot for your support."

Rodriguez, who spent the early years of his career with Newell's, scored 17 goals in 73 appearances during his time with the Merseysiders.
