Liverpool reportedly end their interest in RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner after refusing to pay the striker's £50m release clause.

Liverpool have ended their interest in Timo Werner after refusing to pay the striker's release clause, according to a report.

The RB Leipzig frontman has been persistently linked with a move to Anfield for some time, but the financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic have led to doubts over the feasibility of big-money transfers during the summer window.

Werner - who has amassed 24 goals and seven assists in the Bundesliga this term - is out of contract with Leipzig in 2023 and possesses a release clause of £50m.

However, with Liverpool reportedly set to suffer a loss of over £100m in the absence of football, The Mirror claims that Jurgen Klopp's side have ended their pursuit of Werner for the time being.

The report suggests that while the Premier League champions-elect are still keen admirers of the striker, they do not value him above £30m in the current economic climate.

Barcelona and Inter Milan, who have also been credited with an interest, are also understood to be against paying Werner's £50m release clause, which will supposedly drop to around £35m in 2021.
