RB Leipzig chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff says Timo Werner's future remains far from clear and hints the striker could yet be off to Liverpool.

RB Leipzig chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff has suggested that Liverpool are still in the running to sign striker Timo Werner.

The Germany international has decided against extending his deal with the German club and may therefore be sold this summer before his valuation further decreases.

Liverpool have been linked with Werner on and off this season, but Bayern Munich were considered to be the frontrunners to nab the 23-year-old from their domestic rivals.

Mintzlaff has opened the door for Werner to make the switch to Anfield, however, while Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund are other possible destinations.

"The situation is still the same. Timo Werner would rather not sign an extension, but that could change," he told Sky.

"I don't think it's completely out of the question that he could extend his deal. We haven't talked to Bayern Munich about Timo Werner yet.

"Maybe he doesn't even want to go to Munich. Maybe he would rather join [Thomas] Tuchel in Paris, [Jurgen] Klopp at Liverpool or [Lucien] Favre at Dortmund."

Werner, capped 24 times by Germany, has 16 goals and seven assists in 30 Bundesliga appearances this season
