Liverpool succumb to Crystal Palace defeat

Liverpool succumb to a 2-1 win at the hands of Crystal Palace in Sunday's Premier League clash at Anfield.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has experienced his first defeat at the helm of his new side as Crystal Palace secured a 2-1 win in Sunday's Premier League clash at Anfield.

The visitors took a shock lead on 21 minutes when Yannick Bolasie pounced on a loose ball inside the box and beat Simon Mignolet with a shot inside the right post.

It got even worse for the Reds when Mamadou Sakho landed awkwardly on his ankle, prompting Klopp into a forced substitution which saw Dejan Lovren come on in place of the Frenchman.

The hosts drew level just before the break, however, as Philippe Coutinho ran in space about 10 yards out to fire in low past Wayne Hennessey.

Palace then almost found themselves a goal down as a Liverpool corner was met by substitute Lovren, but his downward header could not squeeze past the Eagles keeper.

Following the restart, Christian Benteke found himself in a good position after collecting a precise pass inside the penalty area, but the resulting effort soared high above the bar.

There was end-to-end action just after the hour, with Bakary Sako firing a shot inches wide of the left post before Benteke rose high to meet a cross, but steered his header just over the crossbar.

Alan Pardew's charges then struck the winner with nine minutes to go when Scott Dann, who moments earlier had headed away a dangerous Jordon Ibe cross, nodded a corner against Mignolet and reacted quickest to nod in the rebound.

The result sees Liverpool remain 10th in the Premier League table, while Palace climb to eighth place.
