Klopp: 'Squad rotation is necessary'

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp insists that squad rotation has become necessary in the modern game after making numerous changes in recent matches.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has claimed that using squad rotation has become part of the job in modern-day football.

Klopp has been criticised by some of the club's supporters after resting players for either the Merseyside derby against Everton last weekend or Wednesday's Premier League fixture with West Bromwich Albion.

The North-West giants drew both matches, but Klopp has insisted that he has a duty to try to maintain the fitness levels of all of his squad.

The 50-year-old told reporters: "It's the job. We have to make sure we have as fit as possible players for specific games. We still think the squad gives us that opportunity.

"Even the players I rotate still have two games per week, rather than three games per week. We had a very important game versus Moscow and couldn't think about anything else. Others teams could rest players for that last round."

Klopp has revealed that Adam Lallana could boost his selection options for Sunday's encounter with Bournemouth.
