Sunday's Liverpool transfer talk news roundup: Antoine Griezmann, Lionel Messi, Georginio Wijnaldum

Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer talk for Liverpool on Sunday, September 6.

The summer transfer window has now begun, with rumours and speculation continuing to swirl as Liverpool eye possible reinforcements.

Jurgen Klopp's champions have not been particularly busy during recent windows, but that has not stopped the rumour mill from linking them with additions.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest news on possible comings and goings from Anfield.

Sunday morning's Liverpool transfer talk news roundup:

Manchester United, Liverpool 'on red alert for Antoine Griezmann'

Manchester United and Liverpool are both reportedly monitoring the developments surrounding Antoine Griezmann as the Frenchman's Barcelona future has been thrown into fresh doubt.

Griezmann looked set for a main role for Barca next term with Lionel Messi seemingly on the way out.

Messi announced on Friday that he had reversed his decision to leave the club, though, meaning that Griezmann could be sold during this summer's transfer window to balance the books.

According to the Daily Mail, Man United and Liverpool are keeping an eye on developments, while Arsenal have also been credited with a potential interest in the 2018 World Cup winner.

The report, though, claims that Barca 'would have to accept a major loss' on Griezmann if they wish to move him on before the transfer deadline at the start of October.

The 29-year-old struggled to show his best form for the Catalan giants during the 2019-20 campaign, although he still managed 15 goals in 48 appearances in all competitions.

Griezmann, who missed a late penalty in France's 1-0 win over Sweden in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday night, has a contract at Camp Nou until June 2024.

Barcelona 'confident of signing Georginio Wijnaldum'

Barcelona reportedly believe that they will be able to complete a deal for Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum before the end of the summer transfer window.

The 29-year-old has less than 12 months remaining on his contract, despite him playing a key role in Liverpool's recent Champions League and Premier League successes

Given the financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic, the Merseyside giants have been left to contemplate whether they are willing to risk losing the Netherlands international on a free transfer next summer

According to Goal, this has led to Barcelona gaining confidence in their efforts to tempt him into a switch to Camp Nou over the coming weeks.

With Liverpool interested in Bayern Munich's Thiago Alcantara, the Catalan giants feel that Jurgen Klopp will give the green light to parting ways with Wiljnaldum.

However, given their own financial situation, Barcelona are unlikely to be willing to pay over the odds for the player.
