Former Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp plays down speculation linking him with the vacant managerial position at Leeds United.

Harry Redknapp has played down speculation linking him with the vacant managerial position at Leeds United.

The West Yorkshire club are still on the hunt for a new manager following the dismissal of Jesse Marsch on February 6.

Redknapp, 75, had recently emerged as a surprise contender to come out of retirement and take the reins at Elland Road until the end of the season.

However, the former Tottenham Hotspur boss has distanced himself from the Leeds vacancy and has joked that the job would clash with his invite to attend the Cheltenham Festival.

Speaking to talkSPORT on Friday, Redknapp said: "I would do it – but it coincides with Cheltenham week! I can't miss Cheltenham. I'm up there on the Thursday.

"I don't know where the link came from! Someone rang me yesterday and I said: 'What are you talking about? It's not April [Fools] is it?'

"I would do it, I love it. I wouldn't say no anywhere. But I would never get the Leeds job. Not a chance! Bonus for keeping them up, that's the move!"

Redknapp's managerial career span across a 34-year period between 1983 and 2017, beginning with Bournemouth and ending with Birmingham City.

As Spurs boss, Redknapp guided the North Londoners into the quarter-finals of the Champions League in 2010-11, while the only trophy that he ever won as a manager was the 2007-08 FA Cup with Portsmouth.

Since retiring from management, Redknapp has worked as a voluntary advisor to Yeovil Town and Bournemouth, holding his current role with the latter since February 2021.

While Leeds continue to search for Marsch's successor, the Whites have confirmed that Michael Skubala will remain in charge for the club's "upcoming matches" including Saturday's Premier League trip to Everton.

A statement released on Tuesday read: "Leeds United can confirm Michael Skubala will continue to lead the men's first team for the club's upcoming fixtures.

"Paco Gallardo and Chris Armas will carry on supporting Michael, alongside the backroom team already in place.

"Skubala, Gallardo and Armas have overseen two positive performances over the last week against Manchester United and will lead training ahead of this weekend's Premier League game against Everton at Goodison Park."

Leeds, who have allegedly been turned down by the likes of Carlos Corberan, Mauricio Pochettino, Marcelo Gallardo and Arne Slot, currently sit 17th in the Premier League table, just one point above the relegation zone.
