Mike Phelan lauds "quality" Robert Snodgrass

Hull City manager Mike Phelan describes Robert Snodgrass as a difference-maker following his match-winning impact off the bench against Southampton.

Hull City manager Mike Phelan has described Robert Snodgrass as a difference-maker after he helped the Premier League strugglers to a 2-1 victory over Southampton on Sunday.

The Tigers ended a six-match losing streak with a come-from-behind win at the KCOM Stadium, with their recovery being inspired by Snodgrass as he came off the bench and scored one before setting up the winner moments later.

The Scotland international has been sidelined with an ankle injury in recent weeks, and Phelan was delighted with how the midfielder coped on his return.

"Every club has a player or several that are different to everyone else and he is one of them. At the start of the game he wasn't ready and it was a big, big risk whether he could get through the game," he told reporters.

"We looked at 30 minutes but he managed to find everything that is required of a good player and he showed his quality.

"Mentally Snoddy was one who was prepared to be on the bench, he was prepared to come on and do his bit, albeit for longer than we expected. But he produced and quality players at this level have to produce."

Snodgrass has been directly involved in half of Hull's 10 Premier League goals this season, scoring four and assisting one.
