Lothar Matthaus: 'Disappearing Mesut Ozil does not deserve regular Germany spot'

Mesut Ozil should not be a regular starter for Germany in Euro 2016 due to his inconsistency, says Lothar Matthaus.

Germany legend Lothar Matthaus has claimed that Mesut Ozil does not deserve a spot in Joachim Low's first XI at Euro 2016 due to his 'disappearing' acts.

The Arsenal playmaker has divided the fanbase following a £42.5m move from Real Madrid in 2013, and Matthaus says that the "mixed" Ozil needs to do more.

"My line of front three looks like this: right [Karim] Bellarabi, left [Marco] Reus and central [Mario] Gotze," the ex-Bayern Munich midfielder, who won the World Cup in 1990, told Bild.

"There is no place for Mesut Ozil. His achievements are mixed. Sometimes, he is world class, other times he disappears completely."

The 27-year-old has clocked 18 Premier League assists since arriving in the Premier League.
