Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen has admitted that he has had a "hectic few months" after being linked with Newcastle United.

The Danish forward has failed to score a goal since the Magpies, who tabled a £20m bid for the 27-year-old, made him their top transfer target in January.

Jorgensen has admitted that his current spell in front of goal is not his best, but vowed to rediscover his form after sticking with his Dutch employers.

"I will continue to work for the team, then I am certain that those goals will come again," the striker told reporters. "It is not my best period at Feyenoord. Hopefully it will come soon. I feel better and better. They were hectic months for me.

"I am not an attacker who believes that I am nervous and therefore wrong. I have to do that better. I have to make goals, I know that. Last year I also had such periods.

"You just have periods like this in football. I am not happy with it, but I work hard to do it better. I do not want to just shoot myself and know that I can make goals, but I just have to do it again. I will continue to work hard for the team, then it will come naturally."

Newcastle, after missing out on Jorgensen, instead brought Leicester City striker Islam Slimani to the North-East in a loan deal until the end of the season.
