Everton forward Cenk Tosun says that he knows "the meaning" of the Merseyside derby as the Toffees prepare to host Liverpool on Saturday.

Everton forward Cenk Tosun has said that he understands the "meaning" of the Merseyside derby as the Toffees prepare to host Liverpool.

Tosun is expected to feature against the Reds in Saturday's fixture at Goodison Park, having just missed out on making his debut against Jurgen Klopp's team when he first signed for Everton in January.

However, the Turkish international has revealed that he is aware of the importance of the match having spent three months in the North-West.

The 26-year-old told The Guardian: "I used to watch these games on TV and I know the impact and the meaning of the game. Since I have been here I understand that meaning even better. Every time I am in the city and I come across Everton supporters, they ask me for a photograph and the last thing they always say is: 'You have to score against Liverpool.'

"There was a derby on the day I signed, a Friday night. I really wanted to be out there myself but the paperwork did not come through in time. I also remember the first game of the season at their ground. It has been a few years since we have beaten our opponent. It is time that we did it."

Tosun has netted four goals from eight appearances in the Premier League.
