Fernandinho keen to impress Luis Felipe Scolari

Fernandinho admits that he is hoping to impress Brazil boss Luis Felipe Scolari during Manchester City's clash with Chelsea tonight.

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho is hoping to strengthen his World Cup claim by impressing Brazil boss Luis Felipe Scolari in tonight's clash with Chelsea at Eastlands.

The Blues boast a wide Brazilian contingent in the form of David Luiz, Willian, Oscar and Ramires, and Fernandinho - who has just five caps at international level - believes that the Selecao coach will be watching the encounter.

He told The Mirror: "Getting to the World Cup is a big dream for me. I am sure the Brazilian manager will be watching because there are a lot of players he needs to see.

"If I have a good performance, there is no doubt it will open the door for me. That's what I am hoping."

The Sky Blues, who boast a 100% record at the Etihad this season, know that victory would see them move six points ahead of Jose Mourinho's men in the Premier League table.

Consequently, the former Shakhtar Donetsk ace likened the showdown to a derby due to the significance.

He added: "It's a big game. You could say it's like a derby because everyone is talking about it."

Kickoff is at 8pm tonight.
