Chelsea suffer blow in Alessio Romagnoli pursuit?

AC Milan are determined to tie central defender Alessio Romagnoli - previously linked with Chelsea - to a new deal, according to a report.

AC Milan are reportedly determined to tie central defender Alessio Romagnoli to a new contract.

The 25-year-old, whose current deal at San Siro will expire in the summer of 2022, has allegedly been identified by Chelsea as a potential target ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.

However, according to Calciomercato, Milan are fighting to convince the Italian to pen an extension with the Italian giants, which would effectively end Frank Lampard's sides of signing him for the foreseeable future.

Romagnoli joined Milan from Roma in the summer of 2015 and has made 181 appearances for his current side, including 29 in all competitions during the current season.

Chelsea could be in the market for a new centre-back this summer with Andreas Christensen being tipped to leave Stamford Bridge, potentially to join Milan.

The Premier League club could also allegedly be offered the chance to sign Barcelona's Philippe Coutinho ahead of the new season providing that N'Golo Kante is allowed to move in the opposite direction.
