Johann Berg Gudmundsson: 'Charlton Athletic must move on from Ipswich Town loss'

Charlton Athletic midfielder Johann Berg Gudmundsson is eager to put Saturday's heavy defeat to Ipswich Town behind him ahead of a tough trip to league leaders Brighton.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson has urged his Charlton Athletic teammates to put their Ipswich Town blip behind them in order to return to winning ways.

The Addicks went into Saturday lunchtime's clash aiming to secure three wins on the bounce in the Championship for the first time since March.

Successive wins under Karel Fraeye dragged the club out of the drop zone, but a resounding 3-0 defeat at home to Ipswich - inspired by two-goal Daryl Murphy - has put an end to the temporary upturn in fortunes.

Speaking to Athletic's official website, Gudmundsson said: "We've played some good football lately but now we need to forget this game and move on to the next one, which will be a very difficult one at Brighton. This league is very unpredictable, as everyone knows, anything can happen and we'll go there to cause an upset.

"We had some positives on Saturday but they came too late. We need to do it quicker because when you're 3-0 down and making chances after 80 minutes then it's too late. We deserved a goal but we needed to be playing like that in the first half. We had a couple of good moments early on but then we conceded two silly goals against a tough side like Ipswich.

"This is the Championship. You can never be too confident because you get punished. We got punished by a team that play a simple way. They play an old style; long, and we didn't play as we normally do. We started to hit too many long balls as well and that's not our game."

Charlton are one point above the bottom three ahead of their trip to league leaders Brighton & Hove Albion in five days' time.
