Karel Fraeye hails "massive" Charlton Athletic win

Charlton Athletic interim manager Karel Fraeye hails his side's "massive" 3-1 victory against Sheffield Wednesday.

Charlton Athletic interim manager Karel Fraeye has praised his side after they secured a "massive" win by beating Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

The Addicks won 3-1 at The Valley against the in-form Owls to end a mammoth 13-match winless streak and move to within a point of escaping the Championship relegation zone.

Fraeye, who took over at the club on a temporary basis after Guy Luzon was fired a fortnight ago, insisted that he and the players always knew that they could turn their fortunes around and hopes that this win will be the start of an upturn in their season.

"Everyone said we had no chance today," he told the club's official website. "From the outside, the perception to our team, our quality and our staff was very negative. But inside, we always believed that we had the quality. That is what the players have always said and they confirmed those qualities.

"We knew that when you are on a poor run like that, the first goal is very decisive. It can kill us or it can boost us and today, I think we scored a well-deserved first goal. Even when they made it 3-1, it was one of those days where nothing could happen to us.

"The desire we showed was big. It was massive and when you have a massive desire you can have a massive win. The players performed on the pitch and I think they showed today that the quality is there."

Next up for Charlton after the international break is a trip to Birmingham City in a fortnight's time.
