Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly made an attempt to sign ex-Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng before his move to Lyon.

Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly attempted to sign German centre-back Jerome Boateng this summer.

The ex-Manchester City man departed Bayern Munich at the end of his contract earlier this year and was previously linked with moves to both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

Boateng instead elected to join Ligue 1 powerhouses Lyon on a free transfer, but the 33-year-old is also said to have been the subject of interest from non-Big Six Premier League sides.

According to BILD journalist Christian Falk, Wolves made an attempt to bring Boateng to the club this summer, but the defender opted to pen a two-year deal with Lyon.

Wolves can only boast one win from their opening four matches of the Premier League season, but they have only conceded three goals in that time with Max Kilman, Conor Coady and Romain Saiss at the heart of defence.

Boateng made his debut for Lyon as a substitute in the weekend's 3-1 win over Strasbourg, despite being found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend a few days prior.

The former Germany international previously scored 10 goals in 363 games for Bayern during a glittering 10-year spell, winning nine Bundesliga titles and two Champions Leagues in that time.
