Paul Breitner: 'Bayern Munich the only major club without debt'

Former Bayern Munich midfielder Paul Breitner says that the Bavarian side are the "only major club in the world that does not have any debts".

Former Bayern Munich midfielder Paul Breitner has talked up the club's financial position by stating that they are the "only major club in the world that does not have any debts".

Breitner played a prominent role in Bayern's midfield in the past alongside Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, and the 64-year-old has now moved to praise the financial foundations that the club has been built on over the years.

"Bayern are self-sufficient. We are independent and we are the only major club in the world that does not have any debts and is in a secure financial situation," Breitner told AZ.

"We have a high equity ratio and plenty of financial resources. Bayern have been making money for 25 years now, even when we have been making big investments.

"Our stadium, the Allianz Arena, has been paid off in its entirety and is owned by the club. We are in a wonderful economic situation. Bayern do not need any sheikhs or oil tycoons. That is one of the major differences with other teams."

Bayern currently hold top spot in the Bundesliga after winning 11 and drawing one of their 12 games this season.
