Barcelona release a statement confirming that they have failed to negotiate a pay cut with players and staff amid fears of bankruptcy.

Barcelona have confirmed that attempts to negotiate a salary cut with players and staff have been unsuccessful.

The Catalan giants - like many leading clubs across the globe - have not been immune from the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic and are understood to have been locked in talks with their stars and employees over a wage decrease for weeks.

However, amid fears of bankruptcy, Barca have revealed that they have failed to agree a pay cut with those at the club, with a statement released by the Blaugrana reading: "After several days of intense meetings, and the negotiation was exhausted, the parties have ended the consultation period, without reaching an agreement."

"In this situation, it is up to the Management Board to take decisions to resolve the serious financial problem arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, which causes a reduction in Club income of more than €300m (£269m) for the 2020/21 season, and which requires a salary adjustment of €191m (£171m).

"The parties have agreed to grant themselves a deadline of November 23, in order to reflect and decide whether the approaches that have remained on the table can still be accepted."

The quartet of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Clement Lenglet, Frenkie De Jong and Gerard Pique are the only four Barcelona players believed to have been in favour of a salary decrease.
