Barcelona confirm that Ousmane Dembele will spend approximately four months on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on a knee injury.

Barcelona have announced that Ousmane Dembele will be out of action for approximately four months after undergoing surgery on a knee injury.

The attacker sustained the problem during France's 2-2 draw with Hungary in the group stage of Euro 2020 on June 19, where he played 30 minutes as a substitute before being forced off.

Dembele was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the tournament, and Barcelona have since confirmed that the ex-Borussia Dortmund man will face a lengthy rehabilitation period after going under the knife.

A statement on the Blaugrana's website read: "Ousmane Dembele has successfully undergone surgery on a dislocated distal tendon in the femoral biceps of his right knee.

"Performed in Turku (Finland) by Doctor Lasse Lempainen and under the supervision of the FC Barcelona Medical Services, the operation means the French striker will be sidelined for about four months."

Dembele's contract situation at Barcelona is yet to be resolved and he is due to become a free agent next year, but Barca are expected to accelerate talks over a new deal in order to protect his value following his injury.
