Abraham: 'It was a nasty challenge'

Espanyol midfielder Abraham is keen to move on from the challenge by Atletico Madrid defender Miranda that led to him spending Saturday evening in hospital.

Espanyol midfielder Abraham has claimed that he is keen to move on from the challenge with Atletico Madrid defender Miranda that hospitalised him on Saturday evening.

Miranda was sent off in the first period of the goalless draw for leading with an elbow in a challenge with the Spanish midfielder.

Abraham was taken to the hospital following the blow, but escaped with a cut above his lip. The midfielder has branded the challenge "a nasty bit of play", but has insisted that he is now keen to move on.

"It was a 50-50 ball. I was running and when I jumped I saw Miranda put his elbow out. I could see I was about to get thumped," AS has quoted Abraham as saying.

"I closed my eyes and took the hit. I was coming from further away and he wasn't certain, I thought I was going to get the ball, but he probably thought he was too. It's a nasty bit of play, but that's football. It shouldn't happen again, but nor do we have to go over and over it, it's in the past."

Abraham is expected to return to training later this week.
