Mikel Arteta wants David Luiz to stay at Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says he "would love" to keep central defender David Luiz at the club this summer.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has said that he "would love" to keep David Luiz at the club this summer.

The centre-back's existing deal at the Emirates Stadium is due to expire at the end of the 2019-20 campaign, and there has been a host of speculation surrounding his future in recent weeks.

Luiz had initially been thought to have signed a two-year deal with the Gunners upon his arrival from Chelsea, but the defender's agent recently revealed that the 33-year-old's contract would expire this summer.

Sspeaking ahead of Wednesday's Premier League clash with Manchester City, Arteta revealed that he is keen to keep the Brazil international at the club heading into next season.

"I'm really happy with David, I want to keep him here with us. He's been a key role model since I joined. I like what he produces on the pitch, I like his influence around the players and the club - I would love to keep him," Arteta told reporters.

Luiz has scored twice and provided one assist in 32 appearances for Arsenal this term.
