Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is reportedly set to return to the club this summer following his loan spell at La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is reportedly set to return to the club this summer, following his loan spell at La Liga champions Atletico Madrid coming to an end.

The 25-year-old failed to nail down a regular place in Diego Simeone's starting lineup, featuring just three times since he joined the club temporarily in October 2020.

According to The Mirror, Atletico will not extend his stay with the club, meaning that the Uruguayan will return to the Emirates this summer.

Torreira was signed by Arsenal in the summer of 2018 from Serie A outfit Sampdoria and featured heavily under former boss Unai Emery, making 69 appearances.

However, since the arrival of Mikel Arteta the midfielder has struggled to work his way into the Spaniard's system, making just two league starts for the Gunners since his appointment in December 2019.

Arsenal are now likely to put Torreira up for sale this summer, as they look to generate funds for potential signings.
