Shirt numbers available for Layvin Kurzawa at Arsenal

Sports Mole looks at the shirt numbers available for Paris Saint-Germain defender Layvin Kurzawa at Arsenal.

Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a deal for Paris Saint-Germain defender Layvin Kurzawa.

The 27-year-old will see his current deal in the French capital expire at the end of June.

A number of clubs - including Barcelona, Sevilla and Liverpool - have been credited with an interest in the left-back, who has featured on 23 occasions for the Ligue 1 champions during the 2019-20 campaign.

However, the Gunners have allegedly won the race for the France international, who could sign a five-year contract at the Emirates Stadium upon his arrival.

Here, Sports Mole looks at the shirt numbers available for Kurzawa at the Emirates Stadium should he arrive during this summer's transfer window.

Kurzawa currently wears the '20' shirt for PSG, which is the number that he has largely held since joining the capital giants from Monaco in the summer of 2015.

The defender largely sported the number three during his time with Monaco, though, and it would be fair to say that '3' is the jersey most recognisable when it comes to the left-back spot, particularly in English football.

Kieran Tierney took on the number three at the Emirates Stadium following his arrival from Celtic last summer, but the '4' jersey is available, having been vacated by Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny.

Six, which used to belong to club captain Laurent Koscielny, is also available, although it seems likely that number will be reserved for a new centre-back, potentially Reims's Axel Disasi or William Saliba, who will link up with the club this summer following a loan spell at Saint-Etienne.

Both the number 12 and number 13 shirts are also available, having recently been vacated by experienced defender Stephan Lichtsteiner and goalkeeper David Ospina.

The '18' is also available following Nacho Monreal's departure, but the number 20 in the Arsenal squad is currently held by German centre-back Shkodran Mustafi.

There is certainly a chance that Mustafi could leave during this summer's transfer window, though, potentially opening the door for Kurzawa to take on the familiar '20' shirt next season.

In terms of the top 30, '25' and '27' are also available as things stand, and it would not be a surprise to see the Frenchman handed one of those numbers if he was seen as a back-up left-back rather than a key member of Arteta's first XI during the 2020-21 campaign.
