Bayern Munich cast further doubt over the future of new boss Niko Kovac by calling a press conference amid rumours that Arsene Wenger could take over.

Bayern Munich have fuelled speculation over manager Niko Kovac's future by calling an unscheduled press conference for Friday morning.

Kovac only took over at the Allianz Arena in the summer and has had just 11 matches at the helm, but already questions are being raised over his position following a poor start to the campaign.

Bayern are winless in their last four matches across all competitions, including back-to-back Bundesliga defeats which have left the defending champions sixth in the table, four points off leaders Borussia Dortmund.

Previous reports have suggested that Kovac's job is not yet under threat, but Bild claims that the club have called a press conference with three senior figures.

Club president Uli Hoeness, chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic will all be in attendance at 11am UK time on Friday, with the trio last appearing together when Bayern announced the return of Jupp Heynckes as manager.

Speculation has subsequently surfaced suggesting that Wenger is the leading candidate to replace Kovac should the new boss be fired.
