Wojciech Szczesny desperate to beat Everton

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny admits that he is desperate to beat Everton in midweek and give his side's season a much-needed boost.

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has admitted that a positive result against Everton on Wednesday night is imperative.

The Gunners were held to a disappointing goalless draw by Aston Villa in their last match, missing the chance to overtake Everton in the fight for a Champions League place.

Szczesny believes that a victory at Goodison Park can help galvanise Arsenal's stuttering season.

He told the club's official website: "It will be a six-pointer and will be a very good game for us to win. We managed to get three points last year and it was a really tough match.

"We are outside the top four so our first target is to reach that top four. But our ambitions are much higher than that.

"We have managed to get a couple of good results recently. It would have been good if we had won on Saturday but we shall take it game by game and hope for the best. We need to climb the table and hopefully do well in the other competitions as well."

Arsene Wenger's side are five points off Chelsea who sit in fourth place, the final qualifying position for Europe's premier club competition.
