New Arsenal signing Mohamed Elneny available to make debut at Stoke City

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger confirms that new signing Mohamed Elneny is available to make his debut in Sunday's trip to face Stoke City.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that new signing Mohamed Elneny is eligible to make his debut against Stoke City at the Britannia on Sunday.

The Egyptian midfielder completed his move to the Emirates from Basel for an undisclosed fee on Thursday.

The 23-year-old, who described the chance to work under Wenger as an "honour", could be included in the squad this weekend.

"He's a defensive midfielder who can contribute in an area that we are short," Wenger told reporters in Friday's press conference. "He is a promising player. I expect him to develop with us into a very strong player. He can defend and attack.

"I bought Elneny because he can play with a defensive player or be the defensive player. I need to know more about him to see whether he becomes a defensive or box-to-box player."

Arsenal head into this weekend's game on the back of a dramatic 3-3 draw with Liverpool.
