Highly-rated Arsenal midfielder Charlie Patino scores on his debut for the senior team to cap off a 5-1 victory over Sunderland in the EFL Cup quarter-finals.

Highly-rated midfielder Charlie Patino marked his Arsenal debut with a goal to cap off a 5-1 win over Sunderland in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup this evening.

The 18-year-old has been tipped to make the breakthrough into the Arsenal first team throughout the current campaign, and was named on the bench for Tuesday's contest at the Emirates Stadium.

Patino was then handed his long-awaited debut as an 80th-minute substitute, replacing fellow academy graduate Emile Smith Rowe with his side already 4-1 ahead.

The England Under-19s international did not need long to make his mark either, netting in the 91st minute to rubber-stamp Arsenal's progress through to the semi-finals.

Patino's goalscoring debut threatened to take some of the spotlight away from Eddie Nketiah, who helped himself to a hat-trick including a cheeky back-heel to clinch the match ball.

Nicolas Pepe got Arsenal's other goal, and the Gunners will now wait to see who they could face in the semis when the other three quarter-finals take place on Wednesday.
