Europa League roundup: Arsenal, Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund through to last 16

Arsenal, Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund all reach the last 16 of the Europa League, while Napoli and Celtic are out of the competition.

Arsenal, Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund have all progressed to the last 16 of the Europa League, while Napoli and Celtic are out of the competition.

The Gunners survived a huge scare as Ostersunds FK came within a goal of levelling their tie at the Emirates Stadium thanks to two quickfire strikes in the first half.

Arsene Wenger's charges, who had won the first leg 3-0, eased nerves in North London thanks to Sead Kolasinac's strike which saw the hosts lose 2-1 on the night but progress 4-2 on aggregate.

Atletico Madrid took the lead on seven minutes in their second leg at home to Copenhagen through Kevin Gameiro for a 5-1 win on aggregate, while Dortmund left it late to salvage a 1-1 draw at Atalanta BC for a 4-3 win in the tie.

Napoli came within a whisker of progressing against RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena but goals from Piotr Zielinski and Lorenzo Insigne were not enough to overturn a 3-1 first-leg deficit as the Germans won on away goals.

Celtic also dropped out of the competition despite boasting a 1-0 first-leg lead against Zenit St Petersburg, who bounced back with a 3-0 win at the Krestovsky Stadium.

Roberto Mancini's charges are joined in the last 16 by fellow Russians Lokomotiv Moscow, who beat Nice 4-2 on aggregate, but Spartak Moscow suffered a 4-3 defeat over two legs to Athletic Bilbao.

Dynamo Kiev's stalemate with AEK Athens gave the Ukrainians a 1-1 draw in the tie and progression on away goals, while Lazio romped to a 5-1 win over Steaua Bucuresti to reach the last 16.

Also through to the next round are Sporting Lisbon, Viktoria Plzen, Lyon, Red Bull Salzburg, AC Milan and Marseille, while Astana, Partizan Belgrade, Villarreal, Real Sociedad, Ludogorets Razgrad and Braga are out of the competition.
