AC Milan pair to miss Champions League League kickoff

AC Milan suffer a double injury blow prior to the start of their Champions League campaign, with full-backs Mattia De Sciglio and Ignazio Abate both doubtful.

AC Milan full-backs Mattia De Sciglio and Ignazio Abate are likely to miss the club's Champions League group stage opener against Celtic due to injury.

The Serie A giants have been drawn alongside the Bhoys, 2011 champions Barcelona and four-time winners Ajax in Group H of Europe's premier competition.

De Sciglio, 20, is certain to be absent for Celtic's visit to the San Siro on September 18 after suffering a knee problem that could keep him sidelined for up to two months.

There are also concerns over the fitness of Abate, who picked up an adductor injury while on international duty with Italy, and is scheduled to return within 10 days.

Should Abate not recover in time, then Cristian Zaccardo would be Milan's only fit senior full-back for the fixture against the Scottish champions.
