British diver Matthew Lee proud to win gold in front of his dad

Great Britain's Matty Lee says he was proud to win men's diving platform gold in front of his dad on Father's Day.

Team GB diver Matty Lee has spoken of his elation at winning gold but says it was even better that he could do it on Father's Day in front of his dad.

Lee, 17, won gold in the men's diving platform yesterday after beating off opposition from a strong Russian team.

"My dad was up in the stands so I guess this is a perfect Father's Day for him," said Lee. "I managed to shout 'Happy Father's Day' to him and it brought a big smile to his face."

"He [Lee's father] can't even swim. I want it to happen though. I'd love to get him in the pool and I'd love it even more to see him dive.

"But I don't think there's much chance of either to be honest. He's a bit too old for either now. Certainly for jumping off the 10m board."

Lee produced one of the best performances of the entire four-day diving programme in Baku, even being given a perfect score of 10 by one judge for his second dive in the final.
