Japan lead way in ladies' parallel giant slalom event

Tomoka Takeuchi cruises through to the final of the ladies' parallel giant slalom event with a time of 1 minute 46.33 seconds in qualifying.

Japan's Tomoka Takeuchi is leading the way in the ladies' parallel giant slalom event following the qualifying stage.

The 30-year-old, who finished the course with a time of 1 minute 46.33 seconds, was joined by Patrizia Kummer of Switzerland and compatriot Julie Zogg in second and third place respectively.

Meanwhile, in the men's qualifiers, Russian Federation's Andrey Sobolev came out on top, while countryman Vic Wild and Patrick Bussler of Germany finished next best.

Both slalom events conclude at around 11am this morning.
