Turkish swimmers Samet Alkan, Kaan Ozcan grateful for Michael Phelps tutelage

Turkish swimmers Samet Alkan and Kaan Ozcan speak of their delight at working under American Olympian Michael Phelps.

Samet Alkan and Kaan Ozcan, two of Turkey's top swimmers, have spoken of their opportunity to work with the most decorated Olympian of all time, Michael Phelps.

Ozcan and Alkan, 16 and 17 respectively, made such impressive progress in a short space of time in Turkey that they were given the chance to go and work on their technique in America.

"I started swimming when I was seven and now I'm training with Michael Phelps, the most successful swimmer in the world," Alkan told reporters.

"I have been working with Michael for two years. [American swimming coach] Bob Bowman came to Turkey and he chose us so the federation sent us to America. Now we train in Baltimore, but next year we will be in Arizona."

Alkan recorded a personal best of 26.03 seconds in the heats of the 50m butterfly on Tuesday.
