Spain's Gemma Mengual to come out of retirement for Swimming World Championships

Spanish synchronised swimmer Gemma Mengual comes out of retirement to compete at the World Championships in Kazan, Russia.

Spanish synchronised swimmer Gemma Mengual has announced her intention to come out of retirement for the World Championships in Kazan, Russia next month.

The 38-year-old, who has almost 40 major medals to her name, took a break from the sport after the 2009 Worlds to have a baby and open a restaurant in Barcelona.

Now, the sportswoman has confirmed that she will partner 19-year-old Pau Ribes in the free mixed duet at the meet in Russia in a month's time.

"We are not planning anything more than just putting on a good showing," Mengual told the official website of the Spanish swimming federation (RFEN).

"Probably we won't be among the medals, which will be for the swimmers representing the United States, Russia, Japan and Italy."

The meet will begin on July 24.
