Great Britain clinch their first gold medal of the 2022 European Aquatics Championships as the women's 4x100m freestyle relay team win the continental title.

Great Britain claimed their first gold medal of the 2022 European Aquatics Championships as the women's 4x100m freestyle relay team clinched the continental title.

GB had already finished on the podium in the women's 4x200m freestyle and mixed 4x100m medley relay races before the team of Lucy Hope, Anna Hopkin, Medi Harris and Freya Anderson took centre stage.

The quartet posted a total time of 3:36.47 to win gold ahead of silver medallists Sweden (3:37.29), while the Netherlands beat Italy to bronze with a time of 3:37.59.

A total of three swimming medals came GB's way on day three of the Championships, as Freya Colbert claimed her maiden medal on the international circuit with bronze in the women's 400m medley.

Two Hungarians in Viktoraia Mihalyvari and Zsuzsanna Jakabos pipped Colbert to the gold and silver medals in the competition, but the 18-year-old's 4:40.06 was good enough for third place.

Colbert was less than half a second behind runner-up Jakobos, but before the teenager finished in the top three, there was another bronze for Luke Greenbank in the men's 200m backstroke final.

An extremely tight race between all eight competitors saw Greenbank post a time of 1:56.15 to finish third, as France's Yohann Ndoye (1:55.62) and Hungary's Benedek Kovacs (1:56.03) won gold and silver respectively.
