Alex Walmsley pens St Helens contract extension

St Helens prop Alex Walmsley puts pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year contract extension at Langtree Park.

St Helens prop Alex Walmsley has signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract with the Super League club.

The 25-year-old has made over 60 appearances for the Saints since arriving at Langtree Park from Batley Bulldogs in 2013.

Walmsley had been linked with a move to Australia before penning fresh terms at St Helens.

"I was really happy when [the coach] approached me about renewing my contract," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. "I've had quite a good start to the season and it felt good that they wanted to reward me for my form.

"I was delighted to do so as since I have come here I have been made to feel very welcome by the players, staff and the board of directors. It was an easy decision to re-sign."

St Helens are currently in second place in the Super League table following seven wins from their opening 10 games of the season.
