Sam Tomkins "grateful" for New Zealand Warriors release

England full-back Sam Tomkins expresses his gratitude to the New Zealand Warriors for granting his release back to the Super League at the end of the season.

England full-back Sam Tomkins has expressed his gratitude to the New Zealand Warriors for granting permission for him to return to the Super League.

The Warriors confirmed earlier today that the 26-year-old will move back to England at the end of the 2015 season, one year before the end of his contract, due to homesickness.

Tomkins joined the NRL side in 2013 for a world-record fee and insists that he will do his best to repay the club during the remainder of his time with them.

"I miss home in ways I never thought I would. I never imagined it would reach this point. This is a great club and I can't say enough about the coaching staff. I love being with the lads and it's a brilliant country to live in," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"I'm truly grateful to the Vodafone Warriors for agreeing to give me an early release and I am so determined to repay them for their consideration.

"All I want now is to get back out on the field to help us have a great season."

Tomkins has been linked with a return to Wigan Warriors, where he scored 144 tries in 150 appearances before his switch to New Zealand.
