Sky Sports introduces player mics in rugby for first time

Sky Sports will introduce player microphones in a Northern Hemisphere fixture for the first time when Stuart McCloskey of Ulster gets mic'd up.

Sky Sports has launched player microphones in its rugby union coverage for the first time.

Later today it will become the first broadcaster to use player mics during a competitive match in the Northern Hemisphere with Ulster centre Stuart McCloskey during the Guinness PRO12 fixture against Scarlets.

"We can now take fans right into the heart of the game as we get up close and personal with the players, and listen in on what happens out on the field," said executive producer of rugby union Gus Williamson.

Sky also uses player mics in some of its domestic cricket coverage.
