Manchester United confirm Chris Smalling taken to hospital with food poisoning in Bali

Manchester United confirm that Chris Smalling was taken to hospital while on holiday in Bali after suffering food poisoning and is now "feeling fine".

Manchester United have clarified the injury fears surrounding Chris Smalling by revealing that the defender was taken to hospital after suffering food poisoning on holiday in Bali.

Pictures of the 26-year-old wearing a neck brace and bandages around his head and left wrist were shared on social media on Monday, sparking concerns over the footballer's health.

It was rumoured that Smalling injured himself while surfing, but now United have confirmed that he fainted as a result of food poisoning.

The Premier League giants added that he was taken to hospital, but is in good health.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Manchester United can clarify Chris Smalling has had food poisoning during his holiday which resulted in him fainting on Sunday.

"The 26-year-old defender was taken to the hospital and is now feeling fine. Smalling is currently on vacation following his time with England at Euro 2016 before reporting back for pre-season training later this month."

Smalling flew to Bali after England were knocked out of the Euros last week at the hands of Iceland.
