Peter Tom: 'Stade Francais fans assured of our support'

Leicester Tigers chairman Peter Tom tells Stade Francais fans that they will have the "support and sympathy" of the local area, as long as they wish to stay.

Leicester Tigers chairman Peter Tom has told Stade Francais fans that they can be assured of the "support and sympathy" of the club after a terrorist attack in Paris on Friday.

The Tigers and Parisian side Stade were playing their opening Champions Cup game at Welford Road when news of the attack in the French capital unfolded.

However, Tom has told those French fans who have not travelled back across the English Channel that they will be in the team's thoughts.

In a statement, Tom said: "In the club's 19-year history of European competition, the Tigers have made and continue to make many friends across the continent. We have shared some memorable occasions over the years with the Stade Francais club and one of our former players, Julien Dupuy, was in their team here on Friday.

"We send our condolences and support to all of our friends at Stade Francais and in their home city, and to anyone affected by Friday's events.

"Any Stade Francais supporters who remain in Leicester and Leicestershire can be assured of our support and the sympathy of the Tigers Family for as long as they continue their stay here. We all wish them a safe and peaceful journey home."

Several games involved French sides in the Champions Cup and Challenge Cup have subsequently been cancelled after the atrocities.
