Sports books gear up for Sky Sports' TV deal with the Premier League

With Sky Sports' record £5.136bn TV deal, football this summer is expected to be a heated affair at online bookies big and small.

The Sky Sports deal with the Premier League will be injecting an impressive £5.136bn into the game between 2016 and 2019, a record deal that's 71% higher than the previous one. This amounts to a mind-blowing £10.19m per game. The deal was struck in 2015 after a bidding war, with Sky Sports breaking previous records for UK TV rights by a huge margin in order to beat BT Sport at the game by grabbing five out of the seven packages. This means that Sky has rights to highlights from 380 Premier League games including all the weekend games, plus live rights to 126 matches, giving it a significant advantage as the UK's sport broadcaster. Clearly, both the Premier League and the football clubs stand to benefit greatly from this increase, and hopefully tickets to games will also come down. We also heard from Richard Scudamore, the Premier League's Chief Executive, that some of the money will go into improving stadiums and grassroots projects for youth.

Without a doubt, with the Premier League being one of the hottest and most watched sports events in the UK, the sports betting industry is also expected to benefit hugely from this deal. Premium sports books like William Hill that are already favourites for many UK sports fans are foreseeing a lucrative season this summer, and we're also expecting William Hill to roll out some promotions to entice us. With Sky delivering the matches to more viewers, sports books and casinos can expect that there will be more eager punters who will want to put their money where their mouth is.

Smaller sports books such as the one at Guts Casino are also excited at the upcoming season. While the online casino is already quite popular for its casino games, Guts Sports is still working on gaining a stronger traction in the sports betting industry. With this upcoming Premier League season, Guts anticipates that many of its casino players, along with casual bettors, will place a few bets on their favourite teams. And while Guts Sports is one of the lesser known sports books in the UK, it has gone full out to implement all the features you expect from a premium sports book, including an exceptional in-play, live betting experience. Guts Casino has a solid reputation for its promotions, as you can see in this full review of Guts; as the relatively new kid on the block in the sports world, Guts Sports should also be dealing out some special deals for the Premier League to draw in bettors.

Other popular UK sports books like Betway are also gearing up for this summer's football season. With Betway being the official principal sponsor for West Ham United, it simply demonstrates how much this bookie values the British football industry. This review on Betway has additional information on the sports book and casino conglomerate. On top of free bets, we're hoping for promotions for West Ham, and extras along the lines of loser's insurance, bore draw refunds, and bet multipliers.
